My Predictive Index Soapbox

According to Business News Daily, the average cost of hiring the wrong person in 2023 was $17,000. Yikes! You might be asking yourself: How do I know if I’m hiring the wrong person? The short answer is this: Use tools to confirm the right people.

Whether you’re running your business on EOS or another operating system, one thing is certain: your business will have people (AI is good, but it’s not that good yet - people are still required - thank God!)

In EOS, there are two tools used to consider whether or not you have the “Right Person Right Seat”; they are called:

(1) The People Analyzer (Right Person - or RP)
(2) GWC (Right Seat - or RS)

These tools are fantastic for quickly assessing whether you have RPRS.

The People Analyzer uses a scoring method of +, +/-, - when measuring an individual against the business's core values. We’re looking for all +'s, but no one is perfect. The bar at my organization is 3 +'s and 1 +/- since we have 4 Core Values. We don’t allow for any -'s. These ratings are usually given by the leadership team when assessing an individual. Although the ratings can be informed by data, they are still subjective in nature because they come from people.

GWC on the other hand is all about the roles & responsibilities of the job. “Gets it” & “Capacity to do it” can be worked on and trained, however, “Wants it” has to be there in order for the person to have GWC.

One of the best tools I’ve found to help me assess GWC in the interview process is the Predictive Index.

I became Predictive Index certified a little over 3 years ago, and it was transformational for our ability to use data for GWC. Predictive Index isn’t a personality test, strengths test, or temperament test. It’s a wiring test. It really helps you to uncover the subjective nature of abilities by identifying the following:

  1. How someone shows up (natural wiring/skills)

  2. How someone thinks they should show up at work (adapted wiring/skills)

  3. A synthesis of the two

You take these results and match them to the position you’re trying to fill, and it will quickly tell you if that person has most of GWC (I say most because it doesn’t measure “wants it” - but don’t worry, '“wants it” will show up naturally, for better or worse. lol).

If you’d like to learn more about the Predictive Index and how I’ve successfully used it to hire and inspire our team, book some time with me.
